… By Jael LimTibet has always been on my bucket list of places to go. I actually wanted to travel to Tibet in 2009. Unfortunately, due to the political situation, there were no permits issued to foreigners. So I was very glad to see this trip organised by SANL. So much so I actually signed up 4 months ahead of the trip!
What really caught my eye on the itinerary was the chance to see the beautiful Mount Everest from the Tibetan side and the view definitely did not disappoint. One of my best memories from this trip was seeing Everest in all its glory at sunset. It was almost as if the peak was on fire. Although I was slightly disappointed that we could not spend more time there as it took one full day to drive in and another day to drive out. Despite this, I was able to take many beautiful pictures of Mount Everest and the surrounding snowcapped mountain ranges. This was definitely the highlight for my trip!… by Jeanette Ngo My decision for a personal trip usually needs to fulfill a few criteria, eg. to see what I havent seen, to do what I havent done, to eat what i havent eaten before, to experience what I havent encountered. After having a simple chat with TS I decided to take on this trip. @ main reasons: Challenge of AMS which i havent experienced, Potala Palace which is a majestic building coupled with its mysterious tibetan culture and I is said that the internal side of the palace is going to be closed for public access! It was also a test to me how I could handle the AMS (for future trips!)With excitement and fear of potential AMS, I embarked on this journey…. (she did well)
Going to Mt Everest Basecamp is another key reason to join this trip. It is definitely the highest altitude i have ever been in my life! Staying at a camp setting operated by the native is another unique experience. With no/ least expectation, another favorite is the Namtso lake @ 4,700m.Due to the high altitude, I do find that the physical body gets tired easily. I constantly had to remind myself to stay calm and walk slowly! My sweet roommate Aldys (stranger turned friend) had to keep reminding me not to talk too excitingly. LOL. Thankfully, I got to meet a bunch of fun loving travel mates, friendship is the greatest gift from the trip for sure!
Lastly, I really appreciate the hardwork done by TS and Zhou leader. Taking care of each of us and feed us very well! [improvements: toilets lor….. stop at those provide cleaner ones! ] … By Aldys KongAs an outdoor and nature lover (not so much a shopper), I am traveller who is keen on experiential trips to immerse myself into the rich history, culture and awesome sights of my ideal destination. This is what Tibet has to offer and what’s more, this trip that SANL organizes includes the ultimate experience of going up to EBC from the Tibet side – that was what excites me most and came as a bonus as it was something that I’d like to do in my life-time.
What I particularly liked about the trip was that it was professionally led by TS (and also a local guide there) where they took utmost care of our safety (to mitigate AMS) and that it doesn’t include those commercial stops where most tour agencies would take you to buy local products (this is a reason why I do not really enjoy packaged tour by tour agencies).
- 1. Why do it ? (Tibet & especially EBC!!)
- 2. What fear? (AMS)
- 3. Most interesting / memorable section of the trip : Going up & spending a nigh at EBC, tibetian meals, yak tea/youghurt and making many friends in the trip
- Generally a great experience. Nothing bad in particular but perhaps just a suggestion to be a little more stringent in pre-requisite/criteria of signing up for places with high altitude so that the lead/guide will experience less difficulty/stress in managing the group

I decided to go on this trip because Tibet is one of the place I wanted to visit. No fear at all.Interesting and memorable section would be friendship made and teamwork spirit given during the trip. There were bonding even though many of us only met for the first time. We always lookout for one another making sure everyone are safe! This is great!!Most of the experience gain were good. Of course everyone are made differently but we just need to be sensitive to one another. I had tonnes of laughters during the trip which is memorable and an encouragement for me to sign up for more trip.
Some scenic sites we experience
